Old Rivers Organic Company

Rooted in History.
Growing for the Future.

Overlooking the Qu’Appelle Valley, Old Rivers Organic Farm is a family-owned heritage farm where history and farming meet. We grow organic grains while honouring the farm’s historic structures, scenic landscapes, and the legacy of those who worked this land before us.

Season after season, the landscape changes — fields golden with wheat, hills blanketed in snow, or the call of geese gathering before migration — but our purpose stays the same: to work with nature.

Moments That Tell Our Story

Bordering Dakota Nation lands, we’re grateful for a longstanding and positive relationship built on mutual respect and a shared appreciation for the land that connects us.

Our Story

Old Rivers Organic Company

Old Rivers Organic Company has been part of the Qu’Appelle Valley for more than a century. Established in the 1890s, when this land was still part of the Northwest Territories, the farm has seen generations of families work the soil, raise animals, and live by the rhythms of the prairie seasons. Our family purchased the property in 2006 and began restoring it to a healthier, more natural state. Three years later, the farm was fully certified organic and has remained certified ever since, with a focus on soil health, sustainable practices, and respect for the land.

Bordering Dakota Nation lands, Old Rivers has always been part of a shared landscape shaped by connection, good relationships, and care for what the land provides. Today, the farm retains its heritage charm with a 1929 Chicago windmill, weathered barns, antique trucks, and natural corrals in the yard. From the ridge above Echo Valley Provincial Park, you can see the land stretch toward Pasqua and Echo Lakes, framed by rolling fields and native prairie grasses. It is a place where history, conservation, and organic farming come together, and where the spirit of the prairies still lives on.

  • Caring for the Land and Wildlife
At Old Rivers Organic Farm, conservation is a core part of everything we do. We focus on protecting natural habitats, supporting local wildlife, and maintaining a healthy, chemical-free ecosystem that benefits both the farm and the surrounding environment.

    Our Conservation Practices:
Rescue Animals on the Farm – All our animals are rescues and receive excellent care. Cats, dogs, and horses help maintain the farm’s health, with cats keeping rodents away from grain bins and buildings.

Wildlife-Friendly Lands – Deer, badgers, rabbits, foxes, coyotes, and porcupines inhabit the nearby hills, while wild birds feed on residual grain stubble during migration.

No Hunting Allowed – We protect all animals on the property; hunting is not permitted on the ground, in the air, or in the fields.
Preserved Habitats – Trees, forested areas, and wetlands remain intact to provide shelter and breeding grounds for birds and other wildlife.

Chemical-Free Soil – The soil is kept healthy naturally through undercrop rotation with clover, peas, alfalfa, and weeds, without using fertilizers or chemicals.

How We Grow

Organic Farming Practices

At Old Rivers Organic Farm, we grow organic wheat and oats using sustainable methods that protect the land and promote long-term soil health. Through alfalfa crop rotation, natural pest control, and a strict no-chemical approach, we maintain nutrient-rich fields that thrive without artificial fertilizers or additives.
Every crop is grown reflecting our commitment to preserving the land for future generations while producing high-quality, organic grains that nourish both people and the planet.
